What is whirling threading:

For thread machining, we can select from the following machining processes like,Thread Grinding, thread rolling, thread turning, thread milling, tapping and whirling. But why whirling threading is more and more propluar since early 2010? Why we should choose whirling threading over other machining processes?

To answer these, firstly we have to know more about whirling threading.

Thread Whirling is a technology that many people have heard of but do not know or understand how it works and how it can help improve their manufacturing process. Thread Whirling is a form of the Thread Milling process with the exception that the multiple inserts  are mounted on the inside of a Cutting Ring or Cutter Holder rather than the outside of a milling tool.

Thread whirling is capable of helical angle adjustments and high speed concentric rotation. The work-piece, which is advanced at a slow rpm, engages the cutting head, which in turn is advanced longitudinally. The combined rotation of work-piece and cutter, and the angle of the tool head, produce the thread pitch required.
